Taborn’s tune.

Wilson Mirror, 6 May 1891.

Whether in fact this was Lemon Taborn‘s favorite song, this brief piece preserves a bit of personal information about one of Wilson’s earliest barbers — his love of fishing.

  1. Lisa!!
Lemon Tabron was my great-grandfather. His son, Henry was my grandfather. Knew he had a barber shop, and that he had a ‘diverse’ clientele’. That he was born a free man confirms what Daddy always said, “Our people were never slaves”. Thank you for all you post about our families. Much of which I never knew, or had never seen. Appreciate you so much!!

    1. Thank you, Renee! Lemon Taborn is a fascinating figure, and I wish I could find more about his early life. For now, he holds the title of First African-American-Owned Business in Wilson!
