This was probably the Oleander Quartet, comprised of George Boyd, Cecil Murray, Howard Scott, George Hall, and pianist Elijah Lamar, which performed blues and spirituals on radio, mostly as a backup to Leadbelly, the legendary folk and blues singer. (Notably, the group backed him on a recording of “Pick a Bale of Cotton” circa 1935.)

I would like to note that at some point the Oleanders Quartet was comprised of: John Taylor Jr. (my father) – 2nd Tenor, BJ Wales – 1st Tenor, Howard Johnson “Baron” – Baritone, George Hall – Bass and Reginald Beane – Piano. This information was given to me by my mother Dorothy Marks Taylor. The time would have been in the late 30s or maybe early 40s. I would appreciate your response to the information that I have provided.
