Hamilton Burial Garden is in crisis, but last week, the community came together to give the cemetery a Mother’s Day cleanup. Special thanks to Greg Willingham and Brandon Head of Saving Stones Headstone Restoration and Preservation for leading the way.

It’s bad when the community has to come out to clean up a cemetery and then yall post 1 little pathetic line about the people that put in hard work to do it
Not sure what you mean by “y’all.” I am not affiliated with Hamilton Burial Garden, but I have written about the issues that cemetery faces, and I named the two people I know were there around the time I stopped by last week to drop off water, snacks, and garbage bags. If you were there, too, kudos to you. I’d congratulate you by name, but I don’t know it. If public credit is important to you though, hype yourself on your own blog. (As for the community coming out to clean up a cemetery, that’s what Lane Street Project has been in the trenches doing for six years around the corner at Odd Fellows Cemetery. We know how hard it is to get public support, but how critical that support is. I wholeheartedly back efforts to find a plan for its care going forward.)
Lisa sorry…I don’t mean yall racially….i was just stating whoever wrote the article just wrote such a short paragraph….I think it’s awesome what they are doing and it should be written and posted all over social media and the newspaper …..didn’t mean to ruffle no feathers
Thank you. I want to clarify though. I write every post on this blog. I’m not a journalist. I’m a public historian who has built a 7500-post platform sharing the stories of the Black families and history of Wilson County, my home. I regularly shine a spotlight on events — like the situation with Hamilton Burial Garden — that touch my work tangentially, that I support, and that I believe should get more public attention. I was part of a conversation on Facebook the week before Mother’s Day weekend that included LaMonique Hamilton, Anika Ricks, and others invested in trying to find a solution for Hamilton Garden’s current and future needs. I have been doing this work for years and understand all too well what Hamilton’s future is without intervention.
Please forgive me, girl I actually thought you were a journalist…..thought you wrote for Wilson Times! Keep on doing what you’re doing! I like reading about our history. Again I apologize….didn’t mean to upset you.
No problem! We all are working toward the same goal!!
