  1. Wow! What an honor to these ladies, especially to Mrs Hagans who taught us Enlish at Dear of Darden High School. Boy, did you study in her class. What a remarkable honor!

  2. After l showed Mom this post of the 136th celebration of Calvary Presbyterian Church , she relayed the following as she is now 97yrs. old having lived in Wilson for 70 yrs.:

After seeing her peers in this photo, she mentioned that while she was a teenager ( in 1942) with a young baby , she would attend Sunday School at Calvary Presbyterian while Dr. Melvin Barnes, Sr. would look after her then baby, my oldest brother.

She further stated that she would then go up to Mercer Hospital and eat with the nurses.

She remembered that for many years Nurse Moody used to tend to the babies at Mercer Hospital .

For those Moms who could not afford the hospital, Ms Mae Hester served as a midwife for so many black mothers. Over the years she would charge $5 , $10, then later on $20 to deliver the babies; many babies she delivered free of charge.
