Indianapolis News, 2 December 1922.
I continue to be surprised by the extent to which Dr. Joseph H. Ward maintained ties to his hometown decades after he left. I can imagine who his Wilson friends were in 1922, but who of his family remained in town?

I too am curious as my paternal grandmother, Lona Ward, was born in Green County and her family migrated to Wilson in the late 1800s. Lisa, I have read previous entries that you made of Dr. D. H. Ward, if I recall the initials correctly.
Dr. David G.W. Ward is definitely the first person to consider as the enslaver of any African-American Ward from north Greene or eastern Wilson County. Unfortunately, there are no records I know of his slaveholdings.
Oh , how I wish there were such records!! Also, my paternal grandfather, Haywood Wellington, came from Green County . Do you know of any Wellington records from that area?
I don’t, but I’ll keep an eye out.
