Hi, My name is daijah, I hope that you’re doing well!During my ancestry I recently found the mcphails as direct link to my family, jesse’s grandfather was named Arnold Mcphail and he is my 4th great-grandpa I was wanting to know if you had any more information on him or the mcphails in general. My oldest relative that I can track accurately is named Arnold McPhail, he is a black man and i have seen his photo at my great grandma Marion’s house (she is still living and she actually met him as a little girl) ! He is buried as well as most of his kids within the John Mcphail family cemetary in NC, I am confused on his lineage to john and Mary because he only lists Mary as his mother on the death record however the father is listed as unknown but ancestry is stating John Mcphail was his father. When checking other trees I see most of the same people i’ve added however Arnold being the only child of color is usually left out of others tree’s. I am wondering if maybe john owned my grandfather and that could be the most possible explanation, but I have no idea.
Hi Daijah! Thanks for visiting my blog. Unfortunately, I have nothing further on Arnold McPhail Sr. It does not appear he ever lived in Wilson County, which is the scope of my research. Determining whether John McPhail enslaved Arnold will require that you search wills, estate records, deeds — and some good luck. I wish you the best in your search!
