  1. Part III: Cora Greene Wellington Dawson stated that Sallie Barbour School in Wilson, NC back in 1934 when she attended was made out of all wood. The front porch, where everyone entered the building , was very large. The Principal’s Office, located in the front of the building , faced Stantonsburg St. (now called Pender St,). The children would have to pass her office and go down a long hall way to their classes. Though she was just 6 years old, she remembers having to take her younger brother to school with her because she was his babysitter. She would change his diaper in the back of the class and the teacher would make a place for him to take a nap.
