i was 5 years old at the time. i recall his office/practice which still stands at present day pender and nash. our family doctor was Cowen but i do recall the entire community discussing his death and grasp a sense of the enormity of the impact on the entire community as there was extended mourning. i do recall having been in his presence. His Son Malvin were members of the basketball team. Malvin and I shared residency in W-S,NC and HE was an executive for the old wachovia bank corporation of W-S. His Son Boisey attended Howard and became a department chief at the university hospital in the 90’s early 2000. a great icon in the history of Wilson. as we know Barnes Elementary is named for Him.
Unfortunately, I was born far to late to have any knowledge of these great people, but I so wish I could have known them although I am certain they had many hard struggles during those times yet, they overcame. I really wish I could have witnessed so of this.
*typo* I really wish I could have witnessed some of this.
