  1. My grandmother was Lona Ward Wellington of Green County.

    I know very little of her family except I was told by my Mom that her dad was a school principal.

    She had a sister named May Ward.

    I’ve often wondered if this is her heritage.

    1. Dr. David G.W. Ward owned an enormous plantation and was one of the largest enslavers in the area. It’s safe to conjecture that every African-American Ward from southeastern Wilson County, northwestern Greene, and northeastern Wayne is connected to this plantation, though they are not all blood-kin to each other.
