Looks like it was 607 Lodge and it was sold to the Housing Authority in 1964 by Ada Knight, widow. She, along with some other family members, is listed in the 1922-23 CD.
Thanks so much for these follow-ups, D!!
Solving these mysteries is my favorite part of what I do. Unfortunately, the 9-5 doesn’t require this type of research very often. So thank you for allowing me to dig!
Glad it wasn’t “destroyed,” though perhaps this was a rebuild. That side of the street is now Whitfield Homes (or what remains of that housing project.)
Ping back to Ada’s funeral service, which you covered. Lots of questions answered. William was her son, etc… Also, she went on, after selling to the HA, to buy the lot her father, Neverson, lost back from the Pittman family.
Ahh! I didn’t make that connection!
Ada Knight’s son William was born in 1916. Surely he didn’t own a house in 1925!
Hmmm… Everything else makes sense except the William part. Maybe an instance of you can’t believe everything you read in the paper?! 😉
I wonder it was a matter of mixing up the husband and son’s names?
