  1. Plantation in 1893? 28 years after slavery was to have ended in 1865???? Hmmm………..
    To the memory of Mr. Woodard, I am sorry for your loss even 128 years later.

    1. “Plantation” was the term commonly used for very large farms growing cash crops like cotton and tobacco. (Still is, but generally to describe crops like coffee, tea, sisal, etc., not generally grown in the US.)
